Salman Taseer assassinated by Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri (Fact and Figures)

On January 4, 2011, one of Taseer's bodyguards, Malik Mumtaz Qadri, shot him in his back 27 times with an AK-47 at Kohsar Market, near his home in Sector F6, Islamabad.

The funeral prayers were led by Allama Afzal Chisti of the Ulema wing of the PPP after even the chief cleric of the historical Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, who initially agreed to offer prayers, backed off at the last moment, saying he was going out of town. He was buried at a military cantonment in Lahore.
